Care & Cleaning
Care & Maintenance · Texture Haus
General Care
Vacuum regularly. Dirt and grit act like sandpaper inside fibers. Vacuum at least weekly in normal areas, 2–3 times weekly in high-traffic zones. Rotate rugs every 6–12 months for even wear and to reduce sun fading. Use a quality rug pad to reduce movement, protect floors, and extend rug life. Limit direct UV exposure — use drapery, shades, or rotate periodically.
Vacuum Guidance — Dyson & High-Power Models
High-suction vacuums can damage rugs if used incorrectly. Improper settings may cause fuzzing, pulled loops, fringe damage, or premature wear.
Use: lowest or medium suction · hard floor or gentle setting · brush roll off · suction-only head when possible
Avoid full power on: hand-knotted or hand-tufted rugs · viscose / bamboo silk · loop pile · fringe edges · antique rugs
Suction-only canister vacuums are preferred for delicate and luxury pieces.
Spot & Spill Removal
Act immediately. For liquid spills: blot with a clean white towel, press downward — do not rub, work from outside inward, repeat until moisture is absorbed, dry thoroughly. For solids: lift carefully with a spoon or dull edge, vacuum crumbs gently, spot treat remaining residue.
Never: scrub aggressively · oversaturate · use bleach · use colored towels · apply harsh grocery-store stain removers
Professional Cleaning
Rugs: every 1–3 years depending on use. Broadloom: hot water extraction or low-moisture methods based on fiber and traffic. Use specialists for wool, hand-knotted, silk, viscose, antique, and custom rugs. Improper cleaning can delaminate backings, cause shrinkage, or distort pile.
Material Notes
Wool — Naturally resilient. Initial shedding is normal and lessens with regular vacuuming.
Viscose / Bamboo Silk / Tencel — Luxurious but delicate. Avoid moisture saturation and aggressive vacuuming. Professional specialty cleaning only.
Jute / Natural Fibers — Keep dry. Blot immediately. Avoid wet shampooing.
Indoor / Outdoor — Hose lightly if approved by product type. Dry fully before reuse. Avoid trapped moisture.
Furniture & Pets
Use cups or glides under heavy furniture. Rotate furniture slightly over time to avoid crushing pile. Pet accidents should be addressed immediately — odor can migrate into backing or pad if delayed. Professional enzyme treatment is recommended when needed.
What to Expect
These are normal and not defects: slight shedding in new wool rugs · minor size variation in handmade pieces · natural dye variation · pile shading and nap changes · softening with age.
What to Avoid
Robot vacuums with aggressive rollers · full-power Dyson brush roll · steam mops · bleach or harsh chemicals · DIY rental shampoo machines on fine rugs · dragging furniture across pile · prolonged standing water.
Broadloom Carpet
Vacuum traffic lanes often. Use walk-off mats at entries. Address spills quickly. Schedule periodic professional cleaning. Use furniture coasters under heavy pieces.
